Estrella Damm Inedit

With a name behind this beer like Ferran Adrià’s, he of El Bulli fame and forefather of molecular gastronomy, I half expected this crafty brew to change colour or sublimate in my mouth, or endlessly change in flavour like Mary Poppins’ famous cough syrup.

Alas, it didn’t, but it sure was a good beer.

Tasting Notes

Light peach / apricot in colour. At the top of the glass, you’ll find a light covering of suds (not much head here) and the scent of tangerines and cloves. It’s an easy-drinking beer, with lower carbonation, like that of a lambic or fruit ale, and has the same cool, spiced citrus character on the palate as did appear in the nose. Went perfectly with my baked Brie, Cheddar and rosemary macaroni and cheese, which brought out the Inedit’s delicious aromatics (coriander and orange peel were indeed added to the brew).

I always love mac 'n cheese and/or grilled cheese sandwiches with tasty tomato soup.

As for ethnic food, how about light offal? (Ed.: Don’t knock it till you try it!)

I reckon drunken chicken feet, marinated duck gizzard (need help translating – it’s low shui ngap sun in Cantonese) or saba shioyaki (Japanese blackened grilled mackerel dish – it’s served with lemon wedges and grated daikon) wouldn’t be bad food pairings.

One of the biggest deals I’ve come across all year at just $6 per 750 ml bottle.
